The Board of Directors of the Women’s Political Caucus of New Jersey (“WPC-NJ”) seeks an energetic and skilled part-time Executive Director (“ED”) who will assist the organization in effectively achieving its mission and
goals. Founded in 1972, the WPC-NJ is a multi-partisan and non-profit membership organization and state affiliate of the National Women’s Political Caucus, whose mission is to recruit, train, and help elect and appoint
qualified, pro-choice women to public office.
The position of ED shall be a part-time position. The ED shall be expected to devote a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week to her WPC-NJ responsibilities. The WPC-NJ shall compensate the ED at a rate of
$1,600.00 per month. The ED shall be an independent contractor and shall not be a WPC-NJ employee. The primary duty of the ED is to provide professional management for WPC-NJ operations. The ED shall report to
the Board of Directors and will support the Board and its committees with their work and programs.
Overview of the WPC-NJ and its Programs
There are three arms to WPC-NJ. The WPC-NJ Education & Training Fund (the 501(c)(3) entity) is a tax-deductible entity responsible for training and education for those seeking political office. WPC-NJ also offers
educational seminars through the Education & Training Fund. WPC-NJ, Inc. (the 501(c)(4) entity) supports advocacy and other initiatives that promote women in public office. The WPC-NJ PAC endorses and supports
the election of qualified women for public office.
Responsibilities
The primary duty of the ED shall be to provide professional management for WPC-NJ operations, including but not limited to:
• Fundraising and development:
o Work with the WPC-NJ Board to develop and implement an annual fundraising plan;
o Provide support for special events; and
o Provide support for direct mail projects.
• Media and public relations:
o Work with the WPC-NJ Board to develop a media campaign to promote WPC-NJ’s mission and events;
o Provide support for appropriate calendar announcements, press releases and media advisories in a timely fashion; and
o Work to keep the WPC’s website and social media timely and current.
• Overview of education programs:
o Assist WPC-NJ Board in planning and advertising educational events;
o Help staff educational events; and
o Provide support for the production of educational and resource materials.
• Overview of political work for the PAC:
o Work with the PAC to identify candidates for the PAC to support; and
o Work with the Board on PAC events.
• Office administration:
o Manage all day-to-day administration and maintenance of office;
o Review and field phone calls, e-mail, fax and correspondence;
o Keep the donor base and other files updated and maintained;
o Provide support for computer systems, maintenance and acquisition;
o Maintain and update the WPC website and social media pages;
o Provide support for event planning, scheduling, program budgets and timelines;
o Provide support for mailing schedules and coordinate most of them; and
o Interview and supervise college interns for additional office support.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5+ years experience in organizational leadership. It is critical that the candidate have a proven track record in fundraising and significant
experience in political organizing. In addition, the candidate must be an effective communicator with public speaking and public relations skills. The candidate must have advanced proficiency with MS Word, Excel,
Outlook, PowerPoint and effective writing skills. An ideal candidate will be able to do broad strategy planning and also will be attentive to details.
